Glitch Drift EP

We are proud to welcome Myungho Choi to the family of Sakskøbing for our twenty-third release. Residing in the big apple New York and baptised in the early 90’s of the warehouses of the Midwest we can safely say the man has seen and experienced the music first hand. Boss of Transit records with the first official vinyl release dating to 1999, Myungho has acquired a ton of knowledge through the years of digging and listening to the music on any medium it came on. Having an opportunity to witness his heroes and get inspired by them sufficiently to create his own story within the sound frequencies.The EP is a boat of smooth sailing but with the turbo jets attached to it, to get to any needed destination as comfortable as possible. Heavy influenced by the sounds of Detroit and Chicago, having grew up with an abundance of the music that comes from there resulted in JET, the formation of the artist’s skill and knowledge which has been executed on the canvas that is a beautiful to look at and pleasure to listen – the 12” vinyl record we are beholding today.

RESTOCK FORTHCOMINGDeep and hypnotic. That pretty much sums up the new Nacreous-EP by Shoal on the Dutch imprint NOWHERE. The title refers to a certain glow or color that mother-of-pearl radiates. Shoal is the alter ego of Utrecht-resident Kenny Dean Kneefel. When you have a name that sounds like a famous stuntman, you are probably prepared to take more risks. And indeed that's exactly what this producer from the lowlands does on Nacreous. Shoal's four track EP combines hallucinant grooves with delicate sound design. Like on Bygone Drums, where ominous distant sounds from a nearby factory creep between the shadows. The same can be said of the title track, a tribalistic tune with a delicate dark undertone. Never Endings is more uplifting, with its dubbed out basslines and crispy hi-hats. Dubtechno that reminds us of both Monolake and Fluxion. Closing track Morning Float is indeed that, a trip in a blue tank filled with warm water, where you are comforted by beautiful strings and sounds of nature.

Some things take time. Harsh Puri aka Reformed Society has been sending me music for more than 3 years. Not just one or two tracks but more than 100! During the lockdown, we spoke over the phone and I told him my way of working, which is to plant a seed that can grow and give it time to blossom. He then went on to tell me his method of working and how that had changed during the pandemic. From finishing tracks within a day, he decided to take more time with his projects now, spending countless hours learning the construction process of different sub genres within dance music that he hadn’t made before, all in the pursuit of being a better producer. This still resulted in over a 100 tracks being sent to me and as Harsh was not able to catch up with naming tracks, all his demos were called “Untitled 000 up to Untitled 150-something”. One day I received another batch of “Untitled tracks” and on hearing the new tracks I knew the seed had blossomed and it was time to compile a record by Reformed Society. In the meantime we met in London and Barcelona and became friends. Harsh told me that most of his tracks are made with the club in mind, more to be played at night and in indoor spaces. Overall, this double ep has an old school influence. Half the tracks have a sound inspired by UK tech house (97-04) with a very “heads down”, serious, and deep vibe for mid-size to semi-large rooms or clubs. It goes even deeper, envisioning people well into their mdma high, feeling full of love and maybe even some introspection. Harsh was born in New Delhi, India in 1983 and later moved to Antwerp, Belgium. He went back to boarding school in Rajasthan, India then lived in the USA to study electrical engineering until 2006. Although he’s been deejaying and going to clubs since he was 17, it was only when he moved to London that he became a serious clubber, exploring different parties in the city every weekend. This is pure deep tech house music that reflects his life on and off the dancefloor. Now it’s time to play these straight up dancefloor bombs out in the club. Thanks for your patience and your music Harsh, I’m so happy we made this double ep work.

Four killer tracks of high grade electronic soul from James Baker AKA REKAB. A fantastic EP showing both breadth of style and respect for the roots and traditions of the music from this artist.The first, Locked on Dodge, is a driving deep Detroit techno track with a hypnotic arpeggiated lead and filtered atmospherics to lose yourself inside. Don’t get too comfortable though, it’s capped with a surprise electro switch in the breakdown to keep the floor on their toes!The second track, We Need to Care, delivers a cool clear synth sound design over Chicago influenced house tempo beats and lush pads. Simultaneously groovy and comforting, this is a track for those special moments. Jacking with your eyes closed and a big grin on your face.Third we have a clear tribute to Drexciya with In Search of the Deep Sea Dweller. Tough 808 beats and laser zaps punch through a bed of evocative strings whilst a filtered single note loop rises and falls like the tide. An abstract robotic voice presides over the track, adding atmosphere whilst giving it a sense of mysterious machine driven intelligence.Lastly, Too Much Time gets its space boogie on. Electro funk beats jump round staccato synth chords and a simple but effective Moog-like bass line. Once the scene is set, a writhing 303 joins the proceedings accompanied soaring pads and beautiful melodic leads that make you feel like you’re being lifted into the cosmos.

Italian dance legend Marco Passarani returns under the mysterious F.F.O.M. moniker for a 12″ of laid back electronic soundscapes and funky neo-house moves. The first of these 12″s sold out fast so move quickly to get your hands on this. Four tracks of chilled balearic and Italo house and cool minimalist electro.
