MUSEK is the new label created by legendary Italian DJ and producer Francesco Farfa and upcoming producer Hamsa. For the first release the two have compiled a Various Artists that sees Farfa himself coming back to the production desk with “Zacido” on the A1, while Hamsa takes over the rest of the vinyl with “Helios”, co-produced with Dan Beaven, on the A2, and with two solos productions, “Chronus” and “Hades” on the flip side side.A record with an original and intelligent mix that incorporates Acid and Progressive influences with Psy-Trance and Goa elements.
Expansion is the 7th EP on Belgium based Nightflight Records. On several levels it is a deft alignment of the label’s emotional techno aesthetic with Mihail Petrovski’s ability to deliver exquisitely poised music that drives deep into the mind and soul. The EP is a fine addition to his discography presented by the likes of Ferox, Common Dreams, Verdant Recordings & Distant Worlds over the last half decade. Petrovski possesses an incredible appreciation of the history of deep techno and evidently distils that into his own craft, whilst adeptly melding a sound that is undoubtably his own. This 4 tracker, all original compositions, manifests an uncluttered platform to fully appreciate those talents. Elegantly programmed percussion is balanced with sumptuous basslines and pads but leave wide open spaces for heart warming melodies on each of these tracks. Tsuris is arguably the most urgent on the record with a warm pressing kick. Omec switches around a superb elastic bassline. Dream Thief brings the tempo down but its innocent celestial melodies linger in the mind. Closing out with Circadian Rhythms, its broken percussion becomes the focus with a sophisticated nod to the finest of mid 90’s UK deep techno.
Anybody said local talent? These 4 Barcelona-based producers join forces to give life to Simple Times, putting together 4 dance-floor tools tainted with the touch of the 90’s. Aiming to preserve a timeless vibe, the tracks in this compilation touch on all flavors of progressive house music – they’re an ode to Italian and American House Music produced between 1990 and 1995, with an impeccable upbeat energy and driving percussions.
a1: main-room energy radiated by arpeggios and chords, with a nostalgic nod to the evergreen Italia novanta sound. a 'New World’ is on the horizon.a2: as 'Godspeed' takes the inner circle, hypnotic sequences infuse the journey with tension, while synthesisers intertwine creating idiosyncratic textures.b1: like a 'Sunbeam' on a cloudy day, a synth line shines through, coming out of left field, weaving a narrative with melodies and harmonies.b2: the ep reaches its crescendo concluding with 'Retrograde': an unwavering, euphoria-driven homecoming.
How do you get 'in the box'? Gal Tsadok-Hai knows. After some experiments with hardware, the Amsterdam-based electronic producer recently went back to his first love: computer composing. Thus keeping open all the options. Footsteps is his first EP for SoHaSo, filled with four tracks of adventurous, left-field explorations in rhythm and melody. cl_forwardspeed 5 is dominated by sub low baslines and razor blade rhythms, while mp_footsteps 1 nods more towards early Aphex Twin and the IDM trickery from last century. Flip the record for max_smokepuffs 999, on which Gal Tsadok- Hai proves he can also bring a straight four-four to great heights. It is both spacious and tense, which makes for a great combination. On closer sv_gravity 0 it's back to the days when melody was still the default in most techno and electro. If you like the abstract machine funk from Dopplereffekt, this might just be right up your alley.
