Placid aka Paul Wise is the chief in command at ‘We’re Going Deep’ – an online community and record label, born out of a lifelong affair with the many shades of electronic rhythm and obsession for collecting records since 1988. On a mission to share and release new music via his We’re Going Deep imprint: you’ll find only the best in Acid, Electro, IDM, Techno and Deep House for the dance floor, front room or even just your headphones.Bringing the sounds of a true pioneer of Electro and Techno fusion to the next WGD solo series edition, Carl Finlow is renown for seamlessly blending the rhythmic intricacies of Electro with the hypnotic allure of Techno: creating a unique sonic identity that resonates deep down to this day.As a founding member of the iconic 20/20 Vision label, there is no doubting his pivotal role or pedigree in shaping the sounds of the Electronic music landscape, having released timeless music that has transcended genres over the past decades.A master of the sonic journey that blends futuristic textures with a timeless essence, he sets out his stall with the creeping drawl of ‘Equi’ on A1, leading with heavyweight bass that’s set to cycle as metronomic snares pop to sci-fi synthesis that can’t help but make your body twitch. It is however the lush shimmer of ‘Aether’ A2 that really captures the heart and soul. A tour de force in emotive Electronics that arise from the depths of Atlantis to sweep you into a whole other moment of existential bliss. A superlatively crafted composition fuelled by the power of the DX-100, awash with melancolic strings and whispy melodies that are combined to perfection – ANTHEM alert!Over on the reverse, the menacing rumble of ‘Affinity’ takes hold on B1 as Finlow exercises a certain prowess balancing airy textures with the visceral, creeping to the finish line with nothing but gold on his mind. Lastly, the 80s spectrum tinged tones of ‘Septagon’ B2 lead us on to another level as you’re lured in by downright gnarly bottom end, as glassy arps and atmospheric touches complete his vision.
Dragutesku's deft take on minimal is a mix of the abstract and the surreal if this EP is much to go on. 'Ecliptic' comes first as a vocal mix and is all backlit synth glows, fizzing synths and distant, heart-aching hooks with thumping drum loops front and centre. It is pure passion but also comes as a dub for more late night sets. On the flip is a Traumer mix that rewires the track into a rickety and loopy rhythm fleshed out with smeared pads and last of all is 'Jazzofil', a more downbeat and experimental cut full of weird and wonderful sound sources.
Back in 1993 Alex Neri and Marco Baroni decided to follow the path of experimentation, crossing the bridge between Melodic Italian Deep House and Progressive Music. This concept is better expressed in the name “Kamasutra” itself, because their music has changed shades, evolving in different “positions” for each version released. Repressed today including two remixes by Gene on Earth and Mennie.
Huge, triumphant return for the man they know as Olsvangèr. This might be the most radiant, life-affirming manifestation of his devotion to trippy dancefloor propulsion. If last year’s EP with fellow Tofistock co-founder MYKI was the pre-induction, ‘Icy Hookups’ signals his full initiation. Solo manoeuvres from the Berlin-based producer and starts as he means to go on with the buoyant flex and ‘90s nostalgia of opening cut ‘Grand Slammin’. Blissed-out vocals vocoded beyond recognition, this is pure dancefloor jubilation but not at the expense of directness or heft.Clearly, he’s no stranger to a late-nite tech house incursion either. Where ‘Paranoweed’ comes thru with the tuff, full-bodied groove, ‘Bubble Toy’ recalls the oddball, mescaline-strength tribalism of his DJ Headshot alias. Then, just as uplifting as its predecessors, ‘Quadi B’ shuts things down with a heady, levitational dose of fractal fuel.
Aniara white label number four brings exactly that to the floor. Two of Arkajo's most propulsive dance-floor tunes are combined on the A-side. Complemented by Dorisburg and Efraim Kent (a debut on Aniara) on the flip with the darker cut Data Smuggler.
